Grand Lake Sailing School 2026

As we get ready for the 2026 Sailing School season, we’re excited to welcome your students back to Grand Lake for another summer on the water. Beyond learning the fundamentals of sailing—like handling sails, steering, and reading the wind—our program is designed to build confidence, encourage teamwork, and inspire a sense of adventure. We’re looking forward to a fantastic season ahead!

TEAM:
We are thrilled to welcome our first-ever Sailing Manager, Harrington Bubb, who will be guiding the program this summer. Harrington brings a dynamic approach, strong leadership, and a genuine enthusiasm for helping young sailors grow.
Our dedicated team of instructors is both experienced and passionate, including training in CPR and first aid, with many holding the US Sailing Level 1 certification and a few with current and past collegiate sailing experience.

Sailing Manager:  Harrington Bubb
Leads: Connor Smith, Daisy Lynch, Edith Claybon & Charlie DeAlessi
Instructors: Charlie Munn, Olivia O’Neall, Ryan Schloemer, Avery Brooks, John Griffin, Matthew Schloemer, Harry Austin, Ilsa Borgen, Vivian Blessing, Sadie Sutherland & James Stahl
Junior Instructors: Henry Robinson, Greta Borgen & Bri McCarthy

2026 Schedule (6 Weeks):

• Week 1: June 22–25, BBQ 6 pm 6/25
• Week 2: June 29–July 2, BBQ 6 pm 7/2
• Week 3: July 6–9, BBQ 6 pm 7/9
• Week 4: July 13–16, BBQ 6 pm 7/16
• Week 5: July 20–23, BBQ 6 pm 7/23
• Week 6: July 27–30, BBQ 6 pm 7/30

On the first day of Sailing School, please arrive at the Grand Lake Yacht Club at 9:30 am for check-in and a swim assessment. For all subsequent days, including additional Mondays for multi-week participants, arrival time is 10:00 am.

Check-in will take place at the front gate. Students will complete a brief swim test between the docks in front of the Yacht Club. Life jackets and appropriate footwear are required. Parents are welcome to observe. While students change and get settled, parents are invited to attend a short welcome session in the pavilion with Sailing School Director, Sean Waters.

Each day will include a mix of on-land instruction and on-water practice. Lunch will be scheduled around weather conditions and daily activities. The program concludes each day at 4 pm.

At the end of each week, we invite families to join us at the Yacht Club for a casual BBQ celebration. Grills will be available—please bring your own food, beverages, and place settings. Friends and family are encouraged to attend. We’ll wrap up the evening with a recap of the week and recognition of student achievements.

Lunch:
Students are welcome to bring their own lunch, and a refrigerator is available onsite.
Many students also enjoy purchasing lunch from nearby snack bars. Miyauchi’s and Sparky’s offer account options for families, allowing students to charge meals. If you’d like to use this option, please coordinate directly with the restaurants before the session begins. Younger students will be accompanied by instructors.

What to Wear:
• Swimsuit on your first day
• Lightweight, quick-drying shorts and shirt (avoid cotton)
• Waterproof sandals (not water shoes, crocs or flip flops), preferably closed-toe
• Sunscreen

What to Pack:
• Well-fitting life jacket
• Change of clothing
• Towel
• Sweatshirt/pants
• Sunscreen
• Sunglasses
• Rain gear
• Hat
• Water bottle
• Helmets are required and will be provided

Inclement Weather:
While we aim to spend as much time on the water as possible, mountain weather can change quickly. Student safety remains our highest priority. If conditions are not suitable for sailing, instructors will shift to engaging land-based lessons and activities.
